How sports betting in Ohio is set to follow the casino bonus model.
Public Group active 1 year, 6 months agoMay 2018 saw a very historic day for American sports. Individual states became allowed to decide for themselves whether they wanted to introduce sports betting as a recreational activity or not. Many states saw the economic advantage and to date, around 30 states have decided to introduce it – with one of the most recent being Ohio, where sportsbooks can operate as of January 1st 2023.
Just as with other states, this has led to a flurry of new sportsbooks preparing to open for business. To mark the fact, there are bound to be plenty of incentives on offer to encourage new sports bettors, many of which will be copying the model set out by online casinos. According to Bonusfinder US, one of the country’s leading review sites, these may include the classic offer of free stake money which works so effectively for online casinos.
In a very neat coincidence, the new law will provide the fans of the Cincinnati Bengals one of their first-ever chances to bet legally on the success of their favorite team in winning the 2023 Super Bowl. After all, they came very close indeed in the 2022 final, only losing out in the final quarter to the LA Rams.
But what are the chances of the Bengals making it through to the playoffs, let alone to State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona? The good news is that as of late November, the Bengals are looking good for a shot at the Super Bowl. In the AFC North, they’re just behind the Baltimore Ravens with a 7-4 record with the division’s other two teams, the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers, languishing way below them in the table.
So, the official FiveThirty Eight estimate heading into December is that the Bengals have around a 74% chance of making it through and are seeded 9th. Maybe not as tied-in as the 99% certainty of the Chiefs, Cowboys and Eagles, but one that most fans will take, all the same.
Plus, their destiny is very much in their own hands if they want to prevail. In the run-up to the end of the season, they are due to meet all the teams seeded above them. They’ve already beaten the Dolphins. Now it’s just a question of overcoming the Patriots, Bills, Ravens and Chiefs to get there.
It sounds like a tall order and there’s also the question of the alleged Bengals’ Playoff Curse. But there are plenty of fans out there who know, in their heart of hearts, that this will be the team’s best season ever.
Looking further ahead, there are likely to be plenty more Ohio sportsbooks opening for business and increased competition may well lead to even better bonuses. While obviously unable to copy the casinos’ very effective free spins bonus, they may look into other tailored offers including complimentary insurance on certain parlay bets.
Whichever way they do choose to go, it’s certain to be good news for sports fans in Ohio!
